The Campus Party

Sober night out

Now, I am all about going out the bar for drinking and dancing, but there are times when we all want to do something fun; besides drinking (or may just not have the money for booze). I know that bowling is a big activity to spend a Friday night doing, but I HATE bowling. It’s so boring; you do a bunch of waiting around to throw a bowl on a wooden floor. So, some other Friday night options are paint ball or Laser Tag. You can gather teams to spend time together. There are some roller rinks that have adult nights, where they have a bar and only open the place to over 18. Lots of places like these give you a student discount.  Both of those options are active ways to spend a night out with your friends. Another less expensive option is to rent a projector from your school and a movie. Have people come over to your apartment or dorm and have a movie theater experience in your own space. You can pop popcorn and have everyone bring a candy option, you can make a candy buffet. There are lots of inexpensive and sober ways to have fun; you just have to be a little creative. Look in the news paper for advertisements and coupons to places you’ve never been before!!!!

Spring Break

Alright, so that magical time of year is coming up again, SPRING BREAK!!! Now, if you don’t have your travel plans already booked I would say get the fuck on it otherwise you’ll be spending that week babysitting your little cousins or spending time listening to old stories from your grandparents. So, the top spring break picks are as follows,

 Numero Uno: Cancun.

If you are into some margarita madness, days on the beach, and nights in the club, then this is the choice for you!

 Number two: Panama City, FL.

This destination popped up in 2009 when MTV held their annual spring break there. If you’re looking to spend all your time on the beach then this is a great destination for you, you will be able to find a sun tanning spot somewhere on their 27 miles of beaches!

Number three is Miami/ South beach, FL.

Here you can hit the beach during the day and club at night or you can party all day at the pool bars. The nightlife here goes on all day!

Number four: Europe.

BORING!!!! Save your trips to Europe for your study abroad semesters.

 Number five: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

This destination gives you the beach-meets-mountains vacation. Although I would be wary about going anywhere in Mexico right now, unless you want this to be your last trip, EVER. If you choose this spot, my advice would be to STAY IN THE RESORT!

Now, obviously, unless your parents are giving you money, we are all poor. Here are some ideas to keep the cost of spring break down. Look for all-inclusive deals. The biggest expense will be on food and alcohol if you have that provided for you at the hotel you will save money. My second piece of advice would be to go somewhere NOT on this list. These areas know that they are high priority on every college student’s wish list and they hike their prices up. There are plenty of island retreats that are not in this list and will give you the same experience. Third piece of advice would be to book as a group, lots of hotels will give you a better deal when booking with a group of people. My final word of advice is to BE CAREFUL! No, I don’t want to sound like your mother, but this is supposed to be some of the best memories of your life, remember them.

Winter Break

As soon as fall semester begins everyone seems to be counting down the days to winter break. We finally get here and it goes by so fast. After the madness of the holidays are over, there seems to be little time to sleep till noon and do nothing all day! The older you get the less there seems to be going on over break. But, good ol’ New Years Eve creeps its way into our lives. This is probably the highlight of the break. Drinking all night and bring the New Year in with that first kiss, unless your alone and then it SUCKS! Next, we spend the rest of the break dreading the start of the spring semester.

So, what do you do if you don’t want to spend all of break sleeping? I find that some of the best deals come out after the holidays, so spending all that cash at the mall is a possibility. I like to use this time to do things you can’t do when you’re going to school all day. Going the gym during the day, watching day time television, or grocery shopping during the day are on my list, but if you don’t act like an 50 year old women, you may just wanna sleep the day away and wake up to go to the bar at night.
